Editing Videos on Your Mobile Phone: The Ultimate Guide

Did you know that you can edit videos on your mobile phone? While it isn’t quite as easy as editing them on your computer, it’s still much easier than you might think! In this guide, we’ll go over the basics of mobile video editing, including how to edit your own videos and how to upload those videos to popular social media sites like YouTube and Facebook. Follow along with us and learn how to edit your own videos on your mobile phone!

What You Need

Editing video on your mobile phone requires a few extra tools, but they’re not too hard to set up. Before you ca

n edit, you’ll need two apps. One is an app that records video—like Google Camera, Filmic Pro or FiLMiC Pro. Another is an editing app—like Snapseed, Adobe Lightroom or Apple Photos. You can find videos with step-by-step instructions for both on Gistablogs.

Hardware

The phone you use depends a lot on what kind of video you're shooting. If you're filming fast-moving subjects—such as a child playing outside or pets running around—you'll need to ensure your phone can capture footage at a high frame rate. If so, look for phones that support 60 fps recording. If not, opt for something with an HD resolution (720p). This way, even if your subject isn't moving very quickly or is farther away from your camera lens, your videos will still turn out crisp and clear. Be sure to check out how much storage space comes with different models; some phones come with microSD card slots that allow you to expand capacity when necessary.

Software

After your video is shot, you’ll need to edit it. There are many good options out there but we recommend using Adobe Premiere Clip for a few reasons. First, it’s free! You can also use it across multiple devices, so if you want to edit something using your computer or phone, you’re covered. Finally, its interface is clean and intuitive (read: easy to learn). One tip though—some of its best features aren’t available if you sign up through YouTube. Search instead for Adobe Premiere Clip. Once installed, here are some pointers

The Best App To Edit Video On A Phone

There are several apps to edit video on your phone, and it’s important to consider them before making a choice. We recommend iMovie because it has a lot of features, is available on all mobile devices, and is designed to be used by anyone—not just people who already know how to edit video. It also works with Apple products like Macs and iPhones, which means you won’t have to worry about learning how to use two different programs if you switch platforms in the future. There are plenty of other options out there, but we highly recommend iMovie for those getting started with editing videos.

Clean up Clips with Manual Features

Nearly every phone comes with a set of manual features that let you edit and delete your video, even if you can’t use those snazzy tools listed above. If they sound unfamiliar, don’t worry—just use your device’s YouTube app to find out what they are. Here’s how to do it: Open up your video, tap on Edit, and then select Trim. This will allow you to cut off any unneeded footage at both ends of your clip. On some phones, you can also click on Advanced Editing Features for more options like changing exposure and saturation levels.

Advanced Functions

Editing video is fun and easy once you get used to it, but a lot of people tend to shy away from it because they don’t think their phones can handle it. With more advanced editing capabilities and an intuitive interface, though, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try your hand at editing videos. One of the most useful features of advanced editing apps is support for multiple audio tracks so that you can add music or narration to your videos. If you have multiple shots in one take, then all you need to do is sync them up using these tools. And if you do decide to get into things like special effects or color correction, our guide will give you all that info too!
